You didn’t become a successful doctor with your own practice by shirking your responsibilities or only meeting the minimum expectations. Quite the opposite! You’re driven by a strong work ethic and determination to do the best you can for your patients and your business.
But “doing your best” doesn’t mean “doing it all”. If you currently wear every hat and juggle every ball for your practice, it’s time to rethink your medical office staffing. Strategic delegation is all it takes to reclaim your time, your energy, and your momentum.
These Are the Signs You Need to Rethink Your Staffing
The phrase work smarter, not harder sounds cliche, but it holds a powerful truth. Even the hardest workers can’t do everything alone. If it takes 100% of your effort to complete 50% of your objectives, how can you ever complete the other 50% of your goals alone?
Simply put, you can’t. Not without the support of medical office staffing.
Take a quick inventory of how you feel. Consider how often each week you feel:
- Exhausted
- Frustrated
- Scattered
- Anxious
- Zapped of your energy
Those are all signs that you’re working harder, but perhaps not working smarter. If the demands of your medical practice make it impossible to even get the breathing room for a small vacation, then your medical office staffing is long overdue for an overhaul.

Where Does This Appear?
Unoptimized medical office staffing reveals itself in many different ways. It forces the following tasks and challenges to overshadow your real purpose for practicing medicine:
- Administrative duties
- Paperwork and patient followup
- Emails, calls, and other communication
- Long working hours
- Team management
- Self-management
Though it’s a natural instinct to want oversight and control of every single function within your medical practice, it’s not realistic to maintain those responsibilities as your business grows. Eventually, a paradigm shift becomes necessary to help you break free from your limitations.
This Is the Paradigm Shift
As soon as you make this critical paradigm shift, your business can surge to the next level:
You must use the capabilities of other people to magnify your own abilities. Doing so creates progress and momentum.
Asking “how?” to every problem drains your energy quickly. Try asking a different question – “who?” It’s as simple as placing those three letters in a different order to transform from defeated to energized, from stagnant to flourishing.
Don’t be afraid to leverage the genius of others! Utilize their talents to achieve and exceed your goals and objectives!
How Can It Help You Grow?
You’ve long served the proud role of lynchpin to your entire business. That’s an exciting achievement, but it’s not your end goal. How much can your business really grow and evolve when every single task flows back to you?
It’s more productive and rewarding to use our paradigm shift to develop a strong and accomplished team around you.
My team in Japan illustrates this point beautifully. Just this morning, I just found out that I have 30 people on my Japanese team. We just purchased a new headquarters, hired a talented group of people, and developed our vision in another country. Yet I didn’t play an integral role in any of it!
Instead, I hired a trusted team to implement my business model. My assistant, integrator, marketing staff, and others came together like puzzle pieces to coordinate growth and create undeniable momentum.
When you look at your future and the goals you hope to accomplish, you can pursue those dreams in one of two ways: by yourself or with the right “who’s”. By yourself, you’re limited to 1x growth. But with a team, you can build 10x the growth and momentum in half the time.
Many other entrepreneurs have said it already, but it’s worth repeating: if somebody can do the job 70% as good as you and can learn to do it 80% or 90% as good as you, that’s better than you doing it yourself day after day after day. It allows you to focus on the priorities that matter most!
